We put together a PC and tried to run a MSDN copy of Vista on it. It was a dual core Intel with 1GB of RAM a 7200 RPM Hard Drive and a 256 MB inexpensive PCI Express video card. The install advisor rated it at 1.8 our of 5. 1 means you can run Vista but no applications. I think Aero requires at least 3. We had our hardware guy tweak it and he got the Index above 2.5. It was reloaded as an XP machine and deployed for use.

My Systems Engineer did a test load of Vista on his PC at work, and it required 484 MB of RAM at idle immediately after first boot.

This is the first time that an OS requires more RAM than the channel can support since the release of 98 followed by the resin factory going off line.
