I was reading an esoteric article on black-powder target guns the other day. One of the problems encountered is that black powder occupies a rather large volume for its weight. Taht means taht in order to get the entire weight-of-charge into the cartridge and seat a bullet astride it, steps need to be taken. So this oldtimer used a drop tube to "dendify the charge". "Dendify?", goes I. Then it hit me: the participle/adjectival form is dense. Dendify = to render dense, or denser. I wonder if we should mount a Campaign to Preserve Gnarly Old Lingo.
