Like a lot of people, me included, you might be allergic to something from the processing of the alcohol itself. Aged alcohol seems to set me off. An allergist told me to stay away from anything that's aged in wood. It's the mold that tears me up. My airway closes up and I can't breathe.

He told me to stick with the clear alcohol's like gin.
