I'm afraid you got the "Russian energy blackmail" upside down... The recent surge in oil/gas prices was artfully engineered by Wall Street to pull Russia out of her desperate financial straits. Remember the Yeltsin era:


Inspite of what you posted below, my point still stands. Europe is held hostage to Russia which can turn off its oil and NG to Europe in a moment's notice. I find it incredible that Europe has compromised itself in that way.
