I do not understand how Barnett can be this obtuse. His only proposal is to approach a regime that hates us on religious principle and is fighting us through terrorist proxies in Iraq, Lebanon and Israel/Pal with basket of "connectivity" carrots, and no sticks.

WTF does he think the Euros have been doing for the past three years? and with what result? The mullahs hate connectivity like they hate all other forms of modernization. They don't give a fig for their citizens' welfare, their economic performance for the last 25 years should prove it to anybody. Half of them at least are true religious nuttters.

Ahmedinijad says we can expect the return of the 12th Imam any day now, and Barnett just pretends not to notice.

Somehow, if Bush ended every speech with a prayer for the Second Coming and an imminent expectation of The Rapture, I think Barnett would notice that.
