Frank, I am looking at this mostly from teh perspective of wireless broadband systems and the evolution from 3G to 4G networks (WCDMA to OFDMA).

No single application has an impact but 'personal viral broadband' is not a single application - it is a culmination of things that are finally starting to come together.

The wired, fiber Internet can add capacity to meet demands. Wireless networks take time, large amounts of capital and spectrum. While moving to the next generation of fiber equipment can be costly, much of the fiber infrastructure is in place and can be expanded. In some areas there is still plenty of dark fiber.

What is important is how soon the industry will move to WiMAX and LTE. No doubt CDMA will continue to expand for several years but high capacity data can cause others to join Sprint and other early adopters. Qualcomm is using OFDM technology in MediaFlo, a decision they didn't come to lightly.
