That was helpful, yet clear as mud. How about an example say I bought 100 shares at 5 on 1/05 and got $818 cash plus 135 shares of LVLT in early January 08. Whats the capital gain and how is it calculated.

If they make it too complicated the Ameritrade calculation (see post 4235) looked pretty good to me <g>.
