The Shah fell because of the Shah, not Carter. Carter had nothing to do with the Shah falling. He did not have a military option to go in and seize the country. The US had already been selling billions in weapons to the Shah for many years. The Shah abused his power terribly, tortired his people and lived like European royalty. There were the very rich friends of the Shah then everyone else was treated like servgants. Classic set-up for a revolution. If the Shah had been a more compassionate leader he would have remained in power.

So what options did Carter have? A rescue mission, which he okayed, but unfortunately it ran into bad weather.

If the rightwing thnks Carter was so bad on Iran, what about their hero Reagan? What did reagan do to fight Iranians? Nothing. In fact he secretly and illegally armed them through Ollie North, not just once but multiple times. Then he went and armed Saddam too.
