Capitol Hill watchers expect the new Congress to try to eliminate a corporate-tax deduction that encourages companies to award executives with stock options, according to published reports. Last year, both the Senate Finance and Banking committees held hearings to explore whether compensation laws need to be modified. Companies currently pay taxes on compensation above $1 million a year per executive, but pay - like stock options - tied to a company's performance can be deducted.
