Iraq is a total loss so long as Bush is leading. We would be lucky to salvage that place in ten years. But maybe a new president could make a difference. Bu Bush would have to be replaced ASAP and it couldn't be a hawk like McCain. This is already costing us a trillion bucks in deficit spending which is like $25,000 for ever family in America. And 25,000 killed and wounded. Plus it's totally disabled our military. It's totally reckless of Bush to exposxe us to other threats like he's doing. Katrina was made much worse because we had few National Guard and Army Engineers. But what if we were attacked on another front? Regardless of how bad a "loss" would be, staying there would be even worse. Because our being there provokes much of the violence. As has been proven. If we leave though the pressure is let out of the cooker and Iraqis will have no choice but to make deals with themselves. Things are not going to change much under Bush. It's a civil war and it's their civil war. We are not going to stop it unless we partition off the country and give the Sunnis a hundred billion in oil money, which ain't gonna happen. I guess Bush wants to try and do some damage control, put lipstick on a pig, and hopefully some of it will help a little, but it won't change the total picture much at all. Remember when we left Vietnam? There was chaos and bloodshed for about a year then the whole place settled down and became pacific. They were never any threat to us after we left. In fact the first thing they did was go to war against China. Ironic huh?
