2008 Presidential Convention to Be Held in Denver
The Democratic National Committee (DNC) announced Thursday morning its choice of Denver as the site of the 2008 presidential convention — choosing the Colorado capital over New York City, its only remaining rival for the event.

During a conference call hours after the announcement, DNC Chairman Howard Dean and Colorado lawmakers gave reporters additional insight into the selection.

Dean, echoing a contention made by Denver boosters as they lobbied for the convention, cited the city’s central location in the Mountain West — a region that, after a long period of Republican domination, has produced Democratic gains and is showing increasing signs of becoming a partisan battleground.

“I’ve long believed that the essence of Democratic victory goes to the West,” said Dean. “At the end of the day . . . that was probably what tipped it towards Denver.”
