Kiefer's Politics LIBERTAS

I caught an interview with Kiefer Sutherland on Charlie Rose last night. Kiefer talked mostly about his devotion to the show, but Rose being Rose asked Sutherland about his politics and Kiefer's replied that his politics are private, but that he does swing left and believe the government should insure universal access to healthcare and a university education. He admitted these would be considered "socialist," but considered them common sense.
Prodded a bit, Sutherland admitted he was appalled by Abu Ghraib, but the context of his answer was interesting. He felt it got in the way of our goals in Iraq, which is hard to disagree with. However, I blame the media for using the actions of a few idiots as a way to blame the entire military and fuel the insurgency so we lose the war, which, of course, is every liberals wet dream.
I think Sutherland surprised Rose the most when he admitted he was very proud of the fact that the show is loved by everyone from Dick Cheney to Barbara Streisand and defended the use of torture in the show as a dramatic device, though he personally felt that in the real world it was useless.
So, what are we to gather by this? Well, that Kiefer Sutherland is a pure one-hundred percent class act, that's what. Unlike other less talented but just as famous stars, he talked about what he believed in without trashing those who disagreed, he mentioned the Vice President's name with nary an eyeroll, and obviously takes great pride that his show is apolitical.
I would add that while I enjoyed the program I still think PBS should be de-funded by the federal government, it's offices sold for scrap at a fire sale, and it's personnel told to get real jobs or given Cuban passports — whichever they prefer.
