Why would they be so stupid, when their current strategy of supporting terrorist proxies is working so well?

It's hard to move from the idea of war as conventional armies bashing it out to this more subtle form of war-by-proxy. It's a hard sell, because most people just don't get it. It just seems like a bunch of unconnected events, or as the media would play it, some generalized anger in the "Arab Street" at US policies. "Never mind the man behind the curtain..."
