I want to change the system. You want to pour more money into it.

That about sums it up?

That's about right. The public school system isn't rocket science. It doesn't have that many moving parts to change.

Besides, I've met a lot of dedicated people who want to do right by their students. Many of those teachers are tenured. Are there bad ones? Sure but they usually don't last in the system. Part of the problem is that teachers are in an environment where popularity plays a big role. Kids respond to popular teachers much more quickly than they do unpopular teachers.

What do you do about the teacher that is competent and does his or her work, but doesn't inspire his or her students?
