Speaking of which....

I spent perhaps two hours early today trying to verify a search. Can't do it.

------------

Last night I was wearing a New York Athletic Club shirt. A friend of mine, one of those guys who worked for that brokerage firm that got decimated on 9/11....I forget the firm's name.....

He's Jewish. He told me that when Hitler came to New York in 1938 the only place that would give him a room to stay was New York AC, and so he (my friend) blew off NYAC when they recruited him as a member.

It sounded like one of those myths that people tell, so I tried to verify it. If true, I figured Avery Brundage probably held the AC to the coals to force them to allow Hitler to stay there.

Either way, the AC was very racist in those days. No Jews, no blacks....Actually, around WWI they threw out German-Americans as well.

So what do you think? Was Adolf Hitler a welcome guest at the New York Athletic Club in 1938?

Obviously, I have a lot of time on my hands.....
