So you think it would have been a good idea to go to war with Iran in 1979?

Back then we didn't have the precise munitions that we have today and it probably would have cost us 30,000 American lives to install another puppet like the Shah. That new guy would have probably been overthrown by now too, so we might have been invading Iran (with Saddam's help) in 2003 rather than the way it eventually turned out. Interesting to contemplate.

You can ask the "crusaders" or the British or anybody else you want to ask...going to War in the Middle East is A bitch.
