Hedge funds grew 12.07% in '06 By Riva Froymovich January 12, 2007 investmentnews.com Hedge funds returned plus 1.49% in December, a 12.07% increase for year-to-date, according to the Greenwich Global Hedge Fund Index of Greenwich Alternative Investments LLC. Over the last five years, from January 2002 through December 2006, the Greenwich Global Hedge Fund Index had annualized gains of 9.23% versus the Standard & Poor's annualized gains of 6.18%. "Emerging Market strategies performed best in 2006, ending the year up +21.32%," said general manager of the database and indexation group of the Greenwich, Conn. company, Ben Rossman, in a statement.
