Yes, a child must believe that you are interested in him. I played lots of board games with my five year old granddaughters this Christmas. It is amazing how they can memorize all those rules and hold you to them. What's hard is to hold THEM to the rules, because they want to win and don't mind bending the rules if they think it can help them win. Reading to them helps a lot. I told my son it is VERY important, and he does it every night that he can.
