If the Democrats had continued in power, it wouldn't have made much difference. Now I don't know if they would have gone as far as setting up an equivalent of the K Street Project, but that just puts the whole thing in focus.

The problem is, as you have noted, is the money. And with elections getting more and more expensive in each cycle, it can only get worse. Which is why we need to go to publicly funded elections. We can't allow private donations, at least past the primary and probably not even then. Because the advantage goes to the one with the biggest war chest and that is usually the incumbent. Even when it isn't, it still means that the large donors can wield undue influence.

We need to reclaim our democracy and lay a better foundation to ensure we don't lose control again. Or at least make it more difficult.
