Tad, Here is an example of going in the right direction by Toyota.. hybridcars.about.com
as a stopgap measure at least.. Yes the impact if we could convert quickly would be quite significant.. Vehicle accessories for one thing seem to have actually reduced our mileage over the last 15 years.. A little light on the towing capacity though.. My GMC Safari will do better than 5K lbs, not a priority for all I realise.

Now pricing and more so availability are major hurdles.. Serious governments should likely simply ban non hybrids. (Yes force it upon us), Cost will need to come down since all will be on the same playing field within a certain time frame. I could certainly live with his vehicle ... I only need one large vehicle but we need two.. second vehicle can be as small and economical as available (direction I'm headed)... Imagine if these vehicles were price competitive.. I would imagine the downside also must include more things to go wrong... I read an interesting article (favourable) on camping with the Ford Escape Hybrid.

I'll be happy to be wrong on this issue :O)
