TB, You sound like you had my dilemma. I went to Wharton in the Ph.d.
program, then I saw all the moolah being offered to people taking
easier courses with better-looking women in them. -G- Somehow, the
joys of teaching faded and I always wanted to manage money. I just
didn't know that career was possible for someone with my background.
At all the schools I applied to,
they give you a whole list of things they look at. But, it really
comes down to GMAT scores and experience as the deciding factors. For
fellowships and scholarships, I think that GMAT scores are all they
look at for the first cut. And, as they get so many applicants right
out of college, having an interesting employment history after college
is a definite plus. Now, we did have some students who were the
offspring of major alumni donors and you will always have those. Then
we had a few where you wondered how they got in. They weren't bright,
rich, or connected, and couldn't play basketball. -G- So, I believe in
the old 3 choices and 2 backups technique. You apply to 3 schools
where the Placement Office is awesome (much more important than
academic reputation) and a couple that are easier to get into. Good
luck, MB |
