Investors who are new to the area of the tar sands need to be warned repeatedly that while the well-established operations are sure to make a lot of money, there are a fringe group of unproven and experimental operations whose stock is being hyped by get-rich-quick wannabes. Anyone who expresses reservations about these operations on the "oil sands" thread becomes the object of nasty bashing by a number of ignorant speculators.

Investors interested in the tar sands should buy into COS.UN, SU, CNQ, ECA, and NXY. They should avoid PBG, CLL, SOIGF, SYN, and most other start-ups.
