The YMCA wanted to not keep score. The vote taken was 7-1 to not keep score. I was the 1. SO I got up and said "what are athletics all about? Sure - its about teaching team concepts, effort etc etc. But its also about winning. Kids need to learn that winning and losing is part of life. They also need to leanr how to win and how to lose. If we don't teach that they miss out on 2/3's od the equation. I'd rather step away as a coach then only address a portion of the issue. I'm going to teach my kids how to win and lose. So if you don't want to keep score I understand - but I'm stepping aside." We took another vote and it was 7-1 again. Only this time it was to keep score.
