You are assuming they understood the system well enough to make a rational prediction. As the scientist who was quoted admits, they still don't/can't.

and they were obviously too cautious about predicting change to the ice sheet.

What specifically do you want the Federal government to spend money on?

it won't stop W from spending nothing on climate change
