Barack Obama essentially announces:

Right now the betting odds seem to have Hilary and McCain as joint favorites, with Obama quite a long way back.

From a purely betting viewpoint, I guess I would go long Obama and Romney and short McCain. Hilary is a puzzle here - she does seem to set a lot of people's teeth on edge, and not just Republican teeth. McCain would be 72 if elected, with some lurking health issues. Giuliani I don't believe can win the Republican nomination. So that's why I think Romney will strengthen, although he will have to deal with the "say anything to get elected" attack given the remarkable transformation in his views that happened in the microsecond just after he was elected Governor and before he started to run for President.

Obama is the "anti-Bush" (which has to look good right now) but his inexperience will be a big issue for him. His opposition to the war will help in the nomination battle against Hilary. He's very smart (President of the Harvard Law Review is an awful long way from Bush's "gentleman's C") and articulate, but maybe too nuanced (Bush of course "doesn't do nuance." washingtonpost.com )

Dispassionate comments welcomed. The test for dispassionate here is that we shouldn't be certain who you support after reading your post. If things get too exuberant then we might have to close down the topic.
