If we relax our efforts or are unable to keep up because of human population decline, which is a metaphysical certitude over the next century, CO2 will be rapidly stripped out and we'll be back where we started, with an ice age on the way.

It will take longer than that, but you are on the right track.

The problem is that the ignorant, like Algore, make a lot hay with propaganda. And the ignorant love causes. They feel, somehow, a certain sense of Dudley Dogoodiness which is narcotic in its effect on critical thinking. I recall being like that as a young man, it was wonderful. Uncritical virtue is great in its power to seduce.....and so wrong.

I remember thinking how much sense The Club of Rome hogwash made, how we were all going to starve thanks to inefficient farming, how the planet was getting mortally colder within decades, vbg, all good causes which had as their common element the fact that the young and the uncritical and the politicians who lead them astray could earnestly adopt them. In order to lead and control the unthinking masses, and harness their self-righteous virtue, the first thing to do is find a bugaboo, then concoct a plausible cause, one to which they can become emotionally attached. The rest is easy. In fact, the specifics hardly matter. The same seduction-of-reason principle applied to bloody Goering and Hitler as it does now to fuzzy-minded Algore.

The Earth is not in balance, never has been, never will be, though we will not be alive, and neither will or children or their children, to witness the climate's grand ebb and flow between heat and cold which will inevitably lead to the transformation of the Earth into a frozen blue/white sphere.

I'm with you, Mq, crank up the greenhouse gasses, warm up the planet, make the forests and the jungles grow because doing so delays the inevitable Big Freeze. We can all adapt to a warmer climate, it's no big deal.

I love CO2.
