I agree with you. Over the past 15 years the issue has progressed from:

"Is it occurring?" to
"it's occurring but is it due to man" to
"it's occurring but how much is due to man?"

which is where it is now.

There clearly IS a political issue if one chooses to push it, but that diverts focus from the problem. IF humans, and I don't mean just Americans, are causing it, humans had better change their behavior to stop causing it.

FWIW this is one of those exceedingly rare issues where the person on the street can have as much or more of an impact than any government or Kyoto Protocol. All he/she has to do is not waste energy. Turn off lights when not needed, weatherstrip and insulate, don't leave the car running when it isn't required, Don't leave windows open with the heat/AC on, buy efficient appliances, and other simple stuff like that. There is no significant lifestyle compromise and you actually save a LOT of money in the long run while at the same time saving resources for the next generation.

If you go into my sister's house on any sunny afternoon, all the lights are on because the kids were never trained to turn lights off when they were done in the room. She paid a FORTUNE in electric bills each month. I bought her flourescent bulbs for christmas a number of years back. The effective gift I gave her over time was hundreds of dollars in electric bill savings. It's just too bad the kids still have that bad habit.
