I'm sick of our support of Israel, and MANY Americans agree with me. It made some sense to have them as a client during the Cold War to counter-balance the Soviet Arab clients, but it makes no sense NOW. It's a vestigial policy, preserved from habit and the continuous pressure from the Israel Lobby, that has it's tenacles all through our government, think tanks and media. It's much like our Cuba policy - it's been obsolete for YEARS.

Supporting Israel works against the national interest of the United States. Israel has nukes, and is perfectly capable of defending itself. If we used our leverage to FORCE Israel to get back behind the green line, return all illegal settlements and leave the Pals to develop a state, the Arabs opinion of us would change dramatically.
