Actually E. Howard Hunt is a much more likely suspect.
While LBJ is often talked about, and could have had something to do with it, E. Howard Hunt was connected with the far rightwing CIA, Cubans and FBI thugs who most likely pulled it off.

Let's put it this way. If LBJ had anything to do with it, he could have only pulled it off by working with the rightwingers. The same people Hunt worked for.

This is strictly a case of a stove calling a kettle black.
