Not in this situation. Home Depot pressed their suppliers (I was one) to get product to the effected market... quick. Wouldn't accept any price increases. And they didn't increase prices.

The companies were happy to ablige at their normal margins. Everybody felt bad for the victims. Our company donated 5 pallets of everyday stuff, from Kleenex to tampons to canned soup, one for the employees of each HD store that was totaled. I was an executive, but flew in and worked at a Homestead store 12 hours a day for 5 days in August with no electricity to get it open so people could start to fix their lives.

I guess this all doesn't fit into you supply/demand calculations, but it worked. Sorry. People don't always act out of greed.
