Ipods are simple but they simply cannot do the job. Not now, not ever.

Ipods do not deliver realtime content. Ipods do not deliver radio. Ipods do not deliver music you haven't decided to steal or purchase.

The theft of content for Ipods will not persist forever. And some people are not going to pay $13 for 13 tracks when the same money could get them a month's worth of content.

Some will, others won't. Clearly, the Ipod has had a huge impact on satellite radio over the last couple of years. Is it a trend? Or is it a transitory condition?

I don't know, and neither do you. I know that to date Ipods have hurt satellite radio. But I also know that they offer two entirely different kinds of entertainment, and there is plenty of room for both.

My Ipod has very little downloaded music -- almost all is ripped from CDs I've owned for years. Right now, CDs are floating around everywhere, and people are ripping each others CDs right and left. This is a condition which will not persist going forward, and when people start having to pay 99c/track to load up an Ipod the interest in satellite radio could certainly ramp up.

Right now, everyone is enamored with the Ipod. That isn't going to last forever and having to pay for the content is likely to change the scenery a bit.

It is funny that you complain about satellite radio technology becoming obsolete but somehow you think the Ipod won't stagnate.
