Ali + Joe, re: Rink, I just want to clarify one thing. For example, Joe reported himself, and _ voluntarily _ stopped posting on main thread on 1/15/07 at 10pm.

You suspended him on 1/17/07 around 8AM. So effectively he will not be able to defend his positions for almost 4 days. Does this mean that a person should continue to post in a normal way until he gets prosecuted?

Ali, good point. This isn't the first time it applies either. What I'll do next time when a poster turns him/herself in I'll make it a habit to check if he/she voluntarily stopped posting. I'm not going to change the rules for this. I'll just do it.

Some other things:

Penalties in case of multiple offences: This is just to clarify that I don't add up penalties in case of multiple offences by one person. I use the longest penalty that applies to a situation. So I'm not using 4 day penalties if a person created 2 OT's / 2 minor insults before I could stop it. Using different methods is more complicated than I'd like. This applies of course until people start to abuse this in which case I'll seriously consider to start adding penalties still.

Waving minor penalties (some limited guidance): I probably wouldn't suspend someone anymore for creating a single non insulting OT post if I saw it only 4 days later. I would however if the person would have created a messy insulting OT discussion that prolonged for e.g. a day. So although I have waved one particular 2-day penalty for a minor violation in a similar situation once I would like to continue to use the current freedom I have within the rules not to wave it in case of a more serious board interruption.
So in sort I'm not going to use an official statute of limitation for minor violations for OT and minor insults beyond above guidance.

Regards,

Rink
