What that actually means to the portentous senator is, “What I also think they are looking for is change in tone and a return to the notion of the common good and some sense of cooperation. I’m the stand-in for that right now.”

Lots of sour grapes from people who support all the candidates who are failing to claim that crucial mantle. Donnelly should get over his hurt feelings about the baby boom generation problems and smell the coffee in middle America. When people are really fed up with something, they chuck it out and buy the new, improved version.

Carping about that inevitable transition goes nowhere. He would be more credible if he pointed out how Clinton/Gore/Kerry/Edwards have anything better to offer on the subject.

Of course, if it were up to me, we would have a Richardson-Hagel race in 2008, where manners and substance and sanity are never in question. Keep dreaming on that one, however.
