The bizarre twist is that there is a trial at all. The partisan Patrick Kennedy had to get the articles under which the independent council had been authorized changed to include perjury, after he knew Libby was not the source of the leak, to even allow his investigation to continue. The perjury charges are based on a difference in his recollection and the recollection of coerced defense witnesses.
