I was "raised" Catholic. Here's some thoughts.

1. Celibacy for the priests - I believe the idea here is that a priest can't give his best effort to both his parish and family because his attention will be divided. I have mixed feelings about that. I would have a much bigger problem with it if the vast majority of the sexual abuse cases being reported weren't priests with little boys. When it's priests with little boys, that suggests emotional problems and other issues that allowing marriage would not eliminate.

2. Contraception - The idea here is to simply produce more Catholics. There was a time it was probably sensible for the Church to have this rule, but it makes no sense in an overpopulated disease filled world.

3. Why is the Catholic Church rich and Catholics poor? - The church is not nearly as rich as it used to be. Catholic schools all over NY are closing down and most priests do not live particularly well. Perhaps Rome has a lot of wealth, but no one else does.

4. The Doctrine of infallibility - Interesting reading on what Papal_infallibility actually is. I thought it was that everything the Pope says or believes must be right (which is preposterous to me).
