I don't think the US would defend an attack on Iran's nuclear facilities. There would be at some more than nominal suspension of economic aid, at least for a few months.

Maybe a little more reaction than when Israel attacked the Iraqi nuke plant.

The US might then extend an olive branch to Iran be reducing some economic restrictions.
