Corporate Identity and Products Consolidated under MicroProse(R) Name

ALAMEDA, Calif., Sept. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Spectrum HoloByte, Inc.
(Nasdaq: SBYT) announced today that it will officially change its company name
to MicroProse, Inc. The stock symbol will also change to MPRS, effective
October 1, 1997. The name change was voted in by an overwhelming majority at a
September 18, 1997 stockholders meeting.
"By changing the company name to MicroProse, Inc. we are unifying the
marketing efforts of the company behind not only a brand name but a company
name reflecting the company's brand image," said Stephen M. Race, chief
executive officer. "The MicroProse name and its long history of great game
development, high consumer awareness and strong positive image will best
position the company and it's products long term."
The Spectrum HoloByte and MicroProse names are each 15 years old. Both
were well established companies when Spectrum HoloByte acquired MicroProse in
1993. Since then, products from the joint company have been marketed under
their original brand names. In May 1996, the company completed research that
suggested that consolidating into one brand name would help consumers and
retailers more easily recognize and identify the company's product. At that
time, the company consolidated all products under the MicroProse brand name.
MicroProse, Inc. is now the company name which unites all company operations
under the MicroProse name.
MicroProse, Inc. is a leading developer and publisher of interactive
entertainment software for use on CD-ROM-based personal computers. The
company is also developing software for the use on next generation 32/64-bit
console machines, the Internet and online gaming services. The company has
five development studios located in: Alameda, California; Hunt Valley,
Maryland; Chapel Hill, North Carolina; Austin, Texas and Chipping Sodbury,
England. Products are available nationally and internationally and are sold
through major distributors, retailers and mass merchants. Products and
company information are available for download from the MicroProse Web site at
microprose.com.
