Question #21 is more clear, though it calls for opinions as to what "most Democrats" want rather than a statement of own wants.

21. Do you think most Democrats want the Iraq plan President Bush announced last week to succeed and lead to a stable Iraq or do they want it to fail and for him to have to withdraw U.S. troops in defeat?
Success / Failure / some one, some another / DK
16-17 Jan 07
Total 32% 48 8 11
Democrats 42% 38 7 12
Republicans 21% 67 7 5
Independents 30% 42 11 17

What's interesting here is that nearly as many Democrats say "most Democrats" want failure and defeat as say they want success. I can see many Republicans speculating that most Democrats want defeat (I would not have answered it that way, mind you), but for Democrats to say that about their own fellow Democrats is rather surprising. And claiming biased wording doesn't cut it - the wording, if anything, should bias responders toward choosing "success." The words "failure" and "defeat" appealed to 38% of Democrats, not as predictions, but as describing the desires of their fellows. I just can't get my mind around that.
