Yes, I guess you are right. I was thinking more along the lines of getting them help without forcing them to leave the priesthood (if that could be done safely), but perhaps that's not even possible because it's a crime. Even if they could "theoretically" be rehabilitated and/or be put in positions where they are not a threat, it may already be too late in the eyes of the law. Hiding it certainly was a disaster.

I'm not a practicing Catholic, but I think my upbringing and Catholic education was a net positive for me. So all the Catholic bashing out there is somewhat distressing. IMO, most of what the church is doing is very good. I have no hostile feelings towards the church at all even though all my friends and I got a few beatings from the nuns and priests.

We tortured those penguins pretty good ourselves. So we probably deserved a beating or two. ;-)
