Motorola to Cut 3,500 Jobs

Motorola Inc. said it will cut 3,500 jobs as it moves to reduce operating costs after posting a 48% decline in its fourth-quarter net income and shrinking margins in its cellphone business.

Chief Executive Ed Zander, speaking to analysts at a meeting in New York, said the move will save the Schaumburg, Ill., company about $400 million over two years. Mr. Zander said he expects Motorola to return to double-digit operating margins by the second half of 2007.
