Is now not the time to start accumulating especially the land drillers? Negative sentiment appears to be reaching a peak and it is mostly weather related. PTEN,GW,BRNC,THE and UDRL are all selling at less than 7 forward PE and will have superb 4th quarters. Even at the low end of 2007 earnings,
the forward PE's are 9 or less. Add in the end of tax selling and the possiblity (probability)of colder mid-Jan weather forecasts and I think today offers a very good risk / reward balance.
Is it better to buy PTEN at 30 plus when everything is rosy or at 23 when the sky is falling. Yes, the drillers could plunge further, but not by much IMHO - maybe 10% tops. I just don't see a drastic contraction in US land drilling due to depletion and the fact that there is hardly an "abundance" of idle rigs - quite the contrary - even today.
I'm not taking full positions, but to be out entirely at this low point when things can change to the upside on a dime just doesn't make sense to me. What am I missing?

Happy Holidays to All

Joel
