I also believe a child begins at conception. But "murder" is a legal term - when we execute criminals or fight wars we don't "murder", but we do kill people, LOTS of them, without batting an eye. Because let's face it, one person here or there just doesn't count for very much.

I certainly agree that "murder" is the legal term. More specifically, it would be premeditated infanticide. Premeditated infanticide is worse than simply murder. Not sure why, but it is.

On this issue there is a "struggle" for moral consistency. Hence, the problem with the difference between Steve's 23 week vs. 25 week "child" in the garbage can. [Garbage can makes is sound worse.] But the moral consistency problem doesn't go away with the definitions of "conception" and "child". You still have to deal with the penalties of violating the law.

I contemplate from time to time joining in a pro-life demonstration toting the sign "Death penalty for premeditated infanticide." to see what happens.
