Someone who worked under him once described Holbrooke as a "force of nature" which I would support after meeting him a few times. He is very bright but very arrogant in the sense that he believes he is always right and knows better than anyone in the room. I was there on one occasion when it turned out that was very much NOT the case. I wouldn't want to work for the man myself in any capacity.

Wherever he ends up - and he will, since he is dying to be SecState - that candidate will have a fairly detailed foreign policy more or less like the 90's but a bit more activist. It was Christopher who held us up in Bosnia for 3 agonizing years.

Of course, with all the veterans of the Clinton years there are more experienced hands to go around.

Condi went to Stanford in 1992 after a couple of years at the NSC and hadn't been a player for at least eight years when she hooked up with Bush. Holbrooke and that whole gang have fresher experience and connections.
