nicotine in cigarettes might make them more addictive, or it might mean people with an addition for a certain amount of nicotine smoke less cigarettes. If that was the case it could actually be beneficial. I'm not saying it is beneficial, but considering it to be automatic evidence of a horrible evil conspiracy with obvious harmful effects isn't reasonable.

It seems you have never smoked. My experience has been the greater the nicotine the more addictive the cigarette, and the more you smoke.
