Kissinger asserts that the Iraq war is part of a larger conflict, namely "the assault on the international order conducted by radical groups in both Islamic sects," particularly against the United States. He insists that despite public disenchantment with the war in Iraq, "under present conditions, withdrawal is not an option."

It seems that some of the strongest supporters of Bush's invasion of Iraq are members of the Jewish population......people like Lieberman, Kissinger, Perle, Horowitz. I have to believe they are taking that position because of Israel. Keeping Arabs pre occuppied takes some of the onus off of Israel and may give Israel a sense of security that they are not alone in the ME. I say that because I have to believe that Kissinger is smart enough to know this surge will not quell the insurgency in Iraq but rather just prolongs the US stay in that country.
