Remember to keep audience relevance in mind also. Jesus was warning those during that generation, not a futuristic belief that He was talking down through the ages some 2000 years in the future.
As to the antichrist being a person, I agree but not a specific person. Futurists teach that this man is yet to come upon the scene but many try to convince others that this man, the antichrist is now living, probably in Europe. Those same groups of believers once predicted Hitler, then Mussolini and even more recently that Mikhail Gorbachev with that mysterious red blood stain down his head was the antichrist.
Mat 10:23 But when they persecute you in this city, flee into the next: for verily I say unto you, Ye shall not have gone through the cities of Israel, till the Son of man be come.
Christ did not lie nor was he mistaken. He did come in judgement upon the Jews during that generation. This I believe is the statement from Jesus that setttled the matter. There was no further mercy to be shown the Jews.
at 23:34 Therefore, behold, I send unto you prophets, and wise men, and scribes: some of them shall ye kill and crucify; and some of them shall ye scourge in your synagogues, and persecute from city to city: Mat 23:35 that upon you may come all the righteous blood shed on the earth, from the blood of Abel the righteous unto the blood of Zachariah son of Barachiah, whom ye slew between the sanctuary and the altar. Mat 23:36 Verily I say unto you, All these things shall come upon this generation. Mat 23:37 O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, that killeth the prophets, and stoneth them that are sent unto her! how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not! Mat 23:38 Behold, your house is left unto you desolate. Mat 23:39 For I say unto you, Ye shall not see me henceforth, till ye shall say, Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord.
