"I never said coalition involvement in Iraq has been a failure"

I'm sorry, Elroy, your denial sounds artificial, contrived, and quibbling to me.

Don't really care how it sounds to you, I'm good at saying what I want to say, and I've never said that coalition involvement in Iraq has been a failure.

If I have misunderstood the manner in which you view the effort to democratize IraQ and secure American interests, then you might tell me the degree to which you think the plan has succeeded and please accept my apology for thinking you were suggesting that Bush had "failed" for three years and had enough "chances".

I think the removal of Saddam's regime went great, a resounding success, and the jury for me on the rebuilding efforts is still out. Clear enough for you?

I am wondering (from my interpretation of your many defensive posts) whether any amount of argument could convince you that America is on the right path.

Probably not arguments from posters on SI. Real world events and developments will have a lot more affect on my determination as to whether America is on the right path in Iraq at the moment.

My view is that 21k troops probably isn't going to change much in Iraq, it seems like just more of the same that has gone on since the fall of Saddam which has not yet stabilized the country. How strongly do I hold that view? Not too strongly since I don't know what coalition troops, Iraqi troops, the Iraqi government and the various insurgent groups are doing on a day by day basis.

Weren't their supposed to be measurable milestones included in the "surge" plan? Do you know any of them and by what date they are expected to be achieved so that we outside observers can have some method of determining progress?
