Greater exposure of consumers to actual costs would drive down the amount of excessive medical testing and drug prescribing.

My medicare part of my SS is shown in my annual statement as income to me. I agree that keeping it as an untaxed benefit only increases the problem of solving Health care costs.

I am at my wits end for a solution that is even remotely competent while being politically acceptable. Which is why, of course, nothing gets done but "more of the same" of the Elephant we have built.

I have suggested in the past a Swiss-type mandatory insurance plan. Subsidized, of course. That is still the best I have been able to come up with, and their are holes in it big enough to drive a truck though.

It really seems politically unsolvable. Which is what the Dems want. They figure the country will get frustrated enough to allow them to put through a national single-payer plan. And what a disaster that will be.
