The article that outlines the dilemma of Bolivia.
Many Bolivian miners say Morales did a his job during
the first year in office and he achieved a lot against
the well established elites in this very poor country.
Is it justified to raise the taxes on mining companies
and will they adapt the tax to international standards.
The mainstream-media in the USA oppose a politician like
Morales and spread their narrow-minded view of
the situation?
It's ridiculous to imply a nationalization in Bolivia
because the mines have already been nationalized long
time ago.
Morales uses this term synonomousley for higher taxes
and a more rigid mining code and his Minister argues
that othern Western countries has just adapted their
mining related tax regimes currently and he
mentioned the USA as an example.
We still should consider other ways to raise tax than
by just increasing tax rates.
They will probably chance the accounting standards
for provisions, amortizations and forward tax losses
to state-of-the-art standards?
Well, there may not be that much to worry about for
us shareholders and I hope that Bolivia will meet
and negotiate with the mining companies upon the
mining acts so that we will get a better certainty -
the issue is about 25%, 30% or 35% - still a low
income tax vs all recent red tape 666-bureaucracy in -
North America? -
