There are definitely these kinds of people in the Iraqi government, arrogant and ungrateful..

This is why I believe we should (as Americans) demand a nationwide referendum on the issue of continued US/Coalition presence in Iraq.

This places the onus upon the Iraqi people to accept, or reject, the presence of foreign powers in their land (always a sore point for Arabs in general).

Strategically, should we be told to go home, we'd be taking a chance that Iran might take such an opportunity to further its control over Iraq. But, on the other hand, but it would send a TREMENDOUS political signal to the Arabs that, VIA DEMOCRATIC PROCESS, they can have some say in their future and that the US would respect their wishes. And with such say, will come the requisite responsibility for resolving their own issues. Then they would no longer be able to blame Americans for the continuing violence in their country.

I don't see this as being any different than the how the Americans perceived the French presence in America after the revolution. The French King tried used the combined victory over the British to advance their interests in the Louisiana territories and limit the expansion of Americans to the west.. It nearly came to war between the former friends.
